The oldest Image 1835
Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller (1797 – 1865) is considered to be one of the great painters of the Biedermeier period.
In August 1835, the painter lived in Salzkammergut and also visited the area around Fuschlsee Lake. Upon climbing the “Spitzkramerbichl” (a hill which today is situated near the Baderluck roundabout above Seestraße), he encountered such a picturesque view onto Fuschlsee Lake and the mountains behind it that he decided to memorialise it in an oil painting.
The left foreground shows the “Moor” on the western side of the lake and – in the incomplete section – “Strumeck” Farm. Today, this painting forms part of the collection of the Princes of Liechtenstein kept at Vaduz Castle. Hof parish has acquired a colour photograph of the painting.

Spitzkramerhaus
The name of this building describes the profession of supplier/distributor, which was run from here for the cottage industries of string- and lace-making from the 17th to the 19th centuries. The so-called “Baderluk-Spitzkrämer” (supplier/distributor) employed up to 15 lace-makers, usually female, who processed the material supplied by him at home into string and lace. He would then collect and sell the finished goods on local and foreign markets. The activity of string- and lace-making, called “Klöppeln”, was performed predominantly by women, but also some men, and constituted a valuable additional source of income on the basis of piece work, such as for talented day labourers or woodcutters.

The picture of the Spitzkramerhaus shows the beginnings of today’s Seestraße, which at the time was the main road, or “Hauptstraße”, to Fuschl am See and which passed directly by the “Strumecker” Farm. The upper section of today’s Seestraße, beyond Baderluck roundabout, still runs along the same route as this Hauptstraße, which was created in 1848.
